New from Semex – three red-hot reds to relish!

Red is the colour of love, they say. And for lovers of Red and White Holsteins Semex has three new red-hot high type, high milk genomic sires that will produce a red calf when used on a red dam.

The pick of the bunch on type is Riverdown Incredibull Red – he’s the highest red sire for type in the Holstein listings, coming in +3.68 UK Type Merit. He also makes it into the top 15  type ranking of all Holstein sires, regardless of colour. He’s sired by the McCutchen son Dresser, out of Cherry Crest Thats Neat by Marbri Applejack Red. He will breed wide, deep cows with incredible udders (+3.31) and excellent feet and legs (+2.86), that milk well and get back in calf easily. Semex advises that interested farmers get in on the act quickly, however, as he is already popular and semen is in limited supply.

Joining Incredibull on the available lists are the two other new sires - Charpentier Redhot-Red, the second highest Red type sire with a score of +2.72 UK TM, and DG Berlin-Red who comes in at +2.56.

Redhot-Red Dam: CHARPENTIER DESTRY SENSASS

On top of his type credentials Redhot-Red has +630kg Milk, +0.05% Fat and +0.01% Protein. He's by Sympatico RC who was never available in the UK so he gives breeders the first opportunity to use this bloodline. On his maternal side, you only have to go back three generations to find the great Splendor cow from Glen Drummond, Canada. Sire analysts say that his daughters are expected to have great balance; plenty of strength combined with angularity, quality udders and very good legs and feet.

DG Berlin-Red is unique among the three because he’s available sexed. He’s a son of Lady's-Manor Olympian RC out of Calbrett Supersire Barb. This pedigree is packed with multiple-Excellent cows stretching way back to the great show-winning cow Rainyridge Tony Beauty from the 1990’s. He'll breed a more medium-sized cow than the others, with plenty of milk (+547kg) and good quality too (-15 on SCC). His Fertility Index is also high, at 4.9, so they will get back in calf quickly.

“Variety is the spice of life and any farmer who likes all or a few Red Holsteins in his herd won’t go wrong by having these sires in his flask,” says Michael Dennison, Semex UK sales manager. “They are all great sires and when used on a red dam will produce excellent highly productive and long lasting red calves. Farmers will love them!,” he concludes.
