Farming’s Top Young Vlogger 2023

Harrison & Hetherington is delighted to announce a Young Farming Vlogger competition as part of  Borderway UK Dairy Expo being held in Carlisle on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th March. Sponsored by North West based video production company, Herd’s Media, the theme is focused specifically on dairying: To educate primary school children on where their milk comes from.

The Vlogs will be judged by Farmers Weekly writers and ‘Boots & Heels’ podcasters, Rebecca Wilson and Lizzie McLaughlin. Rebecca and Lizzie are both finalists in this year’s Northern Farmer Awards in the Women in Agriculture category. Working closely with organisations such as the NFU to provide educational platforms for school children, both are passionate about spreading the farming message and educating consumers via social media.

The competition is open to anyone involved in farming in any way, aged up to 18 years. Entries must be submitted as vlogs, with a maximum running time of five minutes, and there will be a £50 prize and a Carrs Billington goody-bag for the winner, as well as £25 for the runner up.

Harrison & Hetherington Auctioneer and Dairy Expo Event organiser, Glynn Lucas, is expecting a spectacular response from the dairy sector’s up and coming young farming vloggers.  “This is the fastest growing medium for the younger generation, and it’s a perfect way to showcase their life in farming and their views and ambitions for the future.

“Right now, with farming facing such a challenging future, it’s never been more important for us to educate the public on the importance of British farming as the country’s main food producers, including the top-quality milk they buy in the supermarkets. The Farming Young Vlogger competition is a really brilliant way to encourage young farmers to connect directly to the public, and we can’t wait to see the entries.”

H&H Group is deeply involved in supporting the farming community in many ways. Its print, website, and digital marketing company, H&H Reeds, are also directly involved in developing the channels of communication that rural businesses are using to promote the sector. So, H&H know from experience that vlogging is a great way to educate the public about how their food is produced.

Sponsor Alastair Herd, director of Herd’s Media, has been closely involved with the H&H Group for many years as a photographer, videographer and livestream producer. “I’m amazed by the number and quality of videos and vlogs that are appearing on social media, made by people in farming and covering every possible aspect of farming life. This is opening up a window that gives the public a close-up view of real farming, and I’m absolutely delighted to help encourage the next generation of young vloggers to keep showing people so creatively how important farming is to the country’s future.”
