HYB President's Medal Award Finalists Announced

Three passionate and ambitious members of Holstein Young Breeders (HYB) have been selected as finalists for the prestigious Holstein UK President’s Medal Award. Holstein UK is delighted to announce the finalists as Alison Lawrie (Scotland), Natasha Kirby (Lancashire) and Pippa Tudor (Shropshire).

The President's Medal is awarded to an HYB member who has made an outstanding contribution to the breed, Holstein Young Breeders and, in particular, their own Club. The finalists will attend the Semex International Dairy Conference in January where the overall winner will be announced. The ultimate winner of this most coveted and prestigious title will receive an engraved President's Medal from the Holstein UK President, the Sue Cope Memorial Trophy, together with a visit to the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto in November 2023, courtesy of Semex UK.

The entry process began as each HYB Club was asked to nominate one young breeder aged between 18 and 26 years of age. Eight young breeders were invited to the Holstein UK Head Office in Telford, Shropshire for the first in-person interviews since 2019. The panel of judges consisted of Holstein UK President John Jamieson, Semex representative Rodger Mather and Holstein UK Industry Representative Jane Arrell.

To be considered for the award, entrants were asked to write and submit an essay titled “You are at a recruitment fair. Convince the young people attending that entering the UK dairy industry would be a good career choice.”

Commenting on the finalists, Mr Jamieson said “It was a pleasure to interview the eight candidates who were outstanding. Their incredible passion for the UK dairy industry is inspiring and it was an incredibly difficult decision for us to select our top three. Having read the essays and interviewed all of the candidates, I am confident that the future of the UK dairy industry is in safe hands.”
