HYB Debut at 2020 MASTERs Open

From 24th – 28th February, two Holstein Young Breeders travelled to Verden, Germany, to take part in the MASTERs Open competition. Jonny Woodhouse (21, Lancashire) took part in the senior category and Emily Davis (18, Devon) was in the junior category. Now in its second year, the competition takes place in the lead-up to the MASTERRIND Exclusive Auktion and Schau der Besten.

The first couple of days at the event saw the young breeders visit MASTERRIND’s Head Office where they went on a tour of the bull stud before travelling across to the showground where they began familiarising themselves with their calves.

Elements of the competition included stock judging, clipping and showmanship and the standard was extremely high from the 30 competitors from 10 countries.

In the clipping competition, Jonny was placed 2nd in the senior category and Emily 4th in the juniors whilst the showmanship classes saw challenging calves push their results to 7th for Jonny and 15th for Emily. The final result was an overall 6th for Jonny amongst the senior competitors and 13th for Emily in the junior competition.

Following competition day, Emily and Jonny were able to relax and watch the MASTERRIND Exclusive Auktion before heading back into the ring on Thursday morning to lead in the Schau der Besten progeny classes which was a great experience for them both.

We would like to thank Stefan Kallas and all at MASTERRIND for their hard work organising the competition and for being such welcoming hosts during our first year competing in Verden.
