South Wales Club News

Club President
I regret to have to inform you of the recent passing of the club’s current president, Ronald Thomas of Churchvale Holsteins. Ronald was a valued member for over many years having represented the area in his younger days in National stock judging competitions at the Royal Show. Following early work with his parents and brother Bryan at Gelliddu, marriage to Hilary took him to Llancwm and the Churchvale herd which they rapidly developed into one of South Wales’ leaders winning numerous herd and individual trophies at home and in the show ring. Sales both home and abroad of males and females saw the prefix spread far and wide carrying with them the type and production for which this herd was famed.

As a judge Ronald officiated at numerous events at home and abroad with his enthusiasm for the show ring of the highest order. Committee membership was an important aspect of breeding and showing being an excellent attendee when appointed, whilst never being afraid to make his opinion heard. Even recently during his illness he continued to fulfil his duties as far as possible never losing his interest in his community, his beloved church at Llandyfaelog and the family. He took great pride in being responsible for Sunday and Christmas lunch using his catering talents.

The Churchvale prefix will continue to remind us of Ronald’s contribution to the Holstein breed. We send our sympathy to the entire family ensuring them that our thoughts are with them in their personal loss.
