South & Wiltshire Holstein Club - April News

As the lockdown continues, we like many other clubs are finding ways to keep our club moving forward. The committee have embraced technology (nearly) and are now holding their committee meetings over Zoom.

March saw us hold our first and hopefully last virtual AGM, where we were joined by over 20 club members and the evening was presided over by our Club President Nicci Chamberlin.  Reports were given by the Chairman, Treasurer and HYB co-ordinator, and a proposal was than made by the President that the current Club committee remain unchanged for another year, this was agreed upon by all.

Two elections were then held: Club Vice President – Mark Webb who has previously held the post of Club Secretary was proposed by Nicci Chamberlin and seconded jointly by Catherine Elmes and Tom Brooksbsank.

A special election was held to propose that Tom White be awarded the position of Honorary Life Vice President of the South and Wiltshire Holstein Club. Tom who is now in his 99th year, is an active member of the South and Wiltshire Club and the Wiltshire Holstein Friesian club before. He started his farming career on his father’s farm after leaving school and finally retired from farming along with his wife Betty in 1994 when they sold both the farm and their much-loved Thingley Herd. Tom continues to play an active role within the club and has had much success over the years in coaching the HYB members in Linear assessments. This proposal was unanimously voted in by all those present at the meeting and we hope to celebrate with Tom in person later in the year.

During recent months, two members who have supported the South and Wiltshire Club have sadly left us: Harold Potter and Michael Pottow of the Eastleaze Herd, Warminster.
