Winter 2022 - Scotland

A celebration of a successful year in the Scottish Holstein Club. On Wednesday 2nd November the club held its annual awards night at The Radstone Hotel, Larkhall. Awards were presented for both the Herds Competition which was judged back in August, and individual club awards.

Chairman, David Yates praised the club and its members for their outstanding successes in the past year.

The Herds Competition was judged by Mr James Burrow of Stardale Holsteins. With exceptionally high entries in both numbers and quality, from 14 farms, spread across the whole country, it made for a tough competition.

Winning on inspection was the Davidson Family from Errolston Farm at Gretna, who went forward to the UK Premier Herd Competition, and was announced as Reserve Overall at UK Dairy Day.

Other class winners were announced with Hugh and Andrew Neilson of East Brackenbridge Farm picking up the top spot for Overall Production and Inspection.

Overall winner of the competition, based on points accumulated from classes was won by Willie Fleming of Hillhead Holsteins.

Special mention to the Logan Family at Holehouse, who were new entrants this year and excelled in the competition. See below for full results.

The Herds Competition is kindly sponsored by CIS, with special thanks to Bruce Fairlie who travels the length and breadth of the country chauffeuring our judge. The Awards dinner is indebted to sponsors BVL and McHales who are great supporters of our club and make these events possible.

Also presented on the night was special awards to the Holstein Young Breeders.  These awards are presented to HYB members who have had personal successes in the show ring but have also been a great asset to the club in the course of the year.

The winner of the HYB senior member of the year for 2022 was awarded to Cameron Mc Gregor, Parkmill Farm, and junior member of the year, Ellis Caldwell of Ladyyard Farm.
