ARC team to speak at Clandeboye herd open day, Northern Ireland

On Wednesday 27th February, The Clandeboye Estate (County Down) will welcome visitors as part of the Northern Ireland Jersey Breeders’ Day. The event will run from 11am-3pm and ARC’s Lizzie Bonsall will be speaking at the event alongside Ashley Fleming (Cogent), Dr Keith Agnew (United Feeds) and Gary Watson (Dairy Herd Management).

Visitors will also have the chance to see the estate’s herd of 70 pedigree Holsteins, 30 Jerseys and 10 Irish Moiled suckler cows. There will also be the chance to learn about the estate’s yogurt business and their 250Kw anaerobic digester.

Lizzie Bonsall's talk will focus on the benefits of using Approved Registered Cattle (ARC) tissue ear tags. By purchasing ARC tags, breeders can take advantage of a range of services through an internal DNA bank including parentage verification and genomic testing. Commenting on her upcoming talk at the open day, Lizzie says:

“It is really exciting that the Jersey Cattle Society has joined ARC, and I am looking forward to communicating the direct benefits that ARC can bring to Jersey members, through competitive pricing and assurance over the authenticity of animals”

The event has been organised by the Jersey Cattle Society and sponsored by United Feeds. Mark Logan, Clandeboye herd manager and Breed Society Director commented that:

“The event coincides with a Jersey Society board meeting, and we are looking forward to welcoming visitors. It has been more than ten years since we last hosted a Jersey Society event. I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm invitation to all Jersey breeders and those with an interest in the breed. The itinerary includes a line-up of industry representatives and promises to be an interesting and informative day.”
