Changes to Production Awards

In March, Superior Production (SP) and Lifetime Production (LP) Awards changed, meaning that all Holstein UK members will now be automatically enrolled into both schemes. The price of each award will remain the same at £1.13 (+VAT) for each award.

Lifetime Production Awards

The Lifetime Production Award measures how much milk an animal produces over its lifetime and considers natural lactations. From LP50 to LP90, the amount of milk, fat and protein are measured. From LP100 only the lifetime milk yield is required to qualify for the award.

A certificate will be sent for all animals that achieve LP100 and above. For animals that achieve LP130, you will receive a certificate and a rose bowl or a paperweight for the qualifying animal.

Superior Production Awards

This is an award for the quality of the lactation and looks at how much fat and protein are in the milk and the production index figure. The current qualification standard is a 305-day lactation with a combined weight of fat and protein (CFP) of 700kg for heifers and 800kg for cows and a minimum production index of 105. The Superior Production award can only be awarded once in an animal’s lifetime.

As of March 2020 the Superior Production (SP) award will no longer look at the Production Index but will look at the amount of fat and protein (kgs) an animal produces in a 305-day lactation. The new qualification amounts are as follows:

  • On a heifer lactation the animal will need to achieve 700 kgs of fat and protein in a 305-day lactation.
  • On any other lactation the animal will need to achieve 800 kgs of fat and protein in a 305-day lactation

Members can choose to opt out of the automatic awards scheme by contacting Membership Services on 01923 695200 between 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday, or by emailing info@holstein-uk.org
