Central Counties

It’s been a busy but successful summer at Central Counties. 

Our HYB Training Day was kindly hosted by Andrew and Marie Walkden at R J Rose and Son in Oxon, Banbury. It was led by Becky Channing. 

A beautiful day saw children (of all ages) practise washing, clipping and general preparation of calves, ready for our calf show. After a fabulous lunch, the children had a mini showmanship class where Becky was able to offer her expertise and give top tips to each child. Thanks to everyone who helped with this fantastic day. 

Our club calf show was held at Rugby Farmers Mart, judged by Max Davies (Davlea Holsteins). Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t kind to us, but the rain didn’t wash away the smiles of our wonderful handlers and exhibitors. We had an impressive 14 calves in the April 2019 class alone.

Champion Handler (and winner of Mature Class): Emily Barrett

Reserve Champion Handler (and winner of Senior Class): Laura Barrett

Honourable Mention Handler: Becky Walters

Junior Class Winner: Olivia James

Intermediate Class Winner: Zoe Walters 

Novice Handlers: Oliver Wake, Edward Wake, Megan James, George Claridge, Lucy Walkden, Isaac James and Florence Claridge

Honourable Mention Calf (and winner of December class): Cramar Black Diamond Cutes owned by JRA & D Steeples

Thank you to Max for coming to judge our show and to Debbie Walters and Flick Coates for their wonderful photography skills to capture these special club days. Thank you to all of our handlers, exhibitors and members for their hard work, effort and support put into our calf show and the ABAB. 

We look forward to celebrating our 70th anniversary in 2020 with a formal dinner and celebration evening at the Bell Hotel, Winslow in March – more details to follow soon.
