Edition 1 - 2024 - Border & Lakeland

Over the Autumn the club’s members have had a steady stream of success, we had a strong contingent down representing the club at UK Dairy Day. Wormanby Sidekick Mahala 4 winning the Milking Yearling class, with Evening Sidekick Jennifer taking the honours in the milking 4-year-old class, then going on to stand Grand Champion. Evening Sidekick Jennifer was then on fire at Agriscot claiming the Supreme Championship at this prestigious show as well. Making her the first in history to claim Holstein Show Championships at UK Dairy Expo UK Dairy Day & Agriscot all in the same year, a tremendous achievement.

We held our Presidents Dinner for Mr & Mrs Colin Dent Bridgend herd on 18th November at the Roundthorn Penrith, we all had a fantastic evening. We welcomed special guests from near and far, including the current Holstein UK President Andrew and Jenny Jones. We were highly entertained with some delightful anecdotes from Mr Graham Kirkby, which was then proceeded with some beautiful songs sung by Katherine Wytwyckyj, Colin & Yvonne’s daughter - she was remarkable.

Our HYB club are gaining momentum raising funds for the Weekend Rally in 2024, we had a successful Quiz Night, which saw 8 teams of 10 compete, the highlight being the puddings after our Pie & Pea supper well done everyone.

The HYB club are also selling raffle tickets to win a calf kindly donated by Wormanby Farms Ltd – Wormanby Hardy Gloriette 2, £10 ticket anyone would like to purchase one please contact any HYB member. We will be drawing the raffle at the All Britain Awards after UK Dairy Expo so plenty of time to catch the team and get one purchased.

Well done to Phil Potts and Alfie Hay who were chosen the represent the UK in the European Junior Open Show held in Italy. They well and truly helped fly the flag for British Agriculture. Phil arriving back home Best Competitor of 2023 being placed in the top three for all his classes. Very well done Phil!

Finally good luck to Will Horsley who is down to the final three for this year’s Presidents Medal.
