Edition 1 - 2024 - Scotland

A celebration of a successful year in the Scottish Holstein Club. On Wednesday 1st November the club held its annual awards night at The Radstone Hotel, Larkhall. Awards were presented for both the Herds Competition which was judged back in August, and individual club awards.

Chairman, David Yates praised the club and its members for their outstanding successes in the past year, with particular mention to the young breeders of the club who have for another year excelled at their various events up and down the country.

The Herds Competition was judged by Mr David Booth of Feizor Holsteins. With exceptionally high entries in both numbers and quality, from 16 farms, spread across the whole country, it made for a tough competition.

Winning on inspection was the Davidson Family from Errolston Farm at Gretna, who went forward to the UK Premier Herd Competition.  They also topped the evening by winning the combined Milk Records and Inspection Trophy.

Overall winner of the competition, based on points accumulated in classes was won by David Brewster, from the Boclair herd at Bearsden.

The Herds Competition is kindly sponsored by CIS, with special thanks to Bruce Fairlie who travelled the length and breadth of the country chauffeuring our judge in the 4 days of competition, covering 1000 miles! The Awards dinner is indebted to sponsors Lely Centre Ayr and Galloway & Macleod who are great supporters of our club and make these events possible.

Also presented on the night was special awards to the Holstein Young Breeders.

Winner of the HYB senior member of the year for 2023 was awarded to David Howat of Norwoodbrae, and junior member of the year went to Andrew Watson, The Muir.

Both these members have had personal successes in the show ring but have also been a great asset to the club over the year, playing invaluable roles in the team when competing at local and national levels.
