Edition 4 - 2023 - Shropshire

The Club was very proud to support the nomination of Andrew Jones as President of HUK for 2023/24 and we were very pleased to see his election confirmed at the Celebration and AGM at the Grosvenor Hotel in Pulford on the 28th of June. We wish Andrew and Jenny a most enjoyable year in office. Along with fellow enthusiasts and friends we enjoyed the herd visits, and the alternative visits received many positive comments, all topped off with a splendid dinner and entertainment provided by Nigel Owens the former International Rugby Union referee and now carving out a career as a noted Hereford breeder.

Newport show on the 8th of July saw massive crowds, richly entertained by attractions, and blessed with warm weather, and our Club provided refreshments for Judges and members, adjacent to the cattle rings which saw Michael Roberts tapped out as this year’s Champion with Nobold Deman Janie, repeating her success at Shropshire Show and indeed went on to make three out three by taking the Championship at Oswestry.

1st August was the date for the Aireburn Open day which several members attended and admired this 2022 Champion Herd.

Following Burwarton Show on the 3rd we had Oswestry show on the 5th which, despite the torrential rain, we witnessed several members exhibit some great cattle.

Our HYB section attended the Weekend Rally with two teams and did extremely well and made the Club very proud of these still young but very capable young breeders, and special thanks to all those who have supported and helped our stars of the future, especially Brent and Ann Crothers and Phil and Jane Arrell, along with many others.

We held our Calf Show qualifier at Halls Auction Mart on 3rd September which was judged by Arwyn Wilson from Oakview Holsteins in South Wales. Our eventual Champion Handler was Izzy Smith followed by Louis Pocock in reserve, and Isla Arrell getting honourable mention.

In the calf classes we saw Alderbarrow take the Championship with Alderbarrow Ack Kate, with James and Stephanie Doherty taking Reserve Champion with Firstlook Chief Esprit followed by another from Brian and Leonora Whitfield, Alderbarrow Showtime Earl taking honourable mention.

We wish all our young breeders and owners all the best and know they will enjoy the experience.

UK Dairy Day was again a huge success and we congratulate all concerned for putting on this tremendous event. Styche Armour Hilgonda almost created history for the Seaton Family by just being pipped at the post after winning the senior cow class.  She was tapped out in honourable mention, with two great cows above her but received much acclaim and was very much admired.

18th September was the day we welcomed back our Summer Herds Competition Judge Andrew and Mimi Birkle from Whinchat Holsteins. Following a splendid dinner Andrew gave a presentation about his three days with us back in June when he judged 20 entrants in the 2023 Herds Comp before presenting the prize cards and trophies to the winners.
