Edition 4 - 2023 - South Wales

The Annual Stock Judging competition was held early July at Pearson Farm home of St Brides Holsteins by kind invitation of Geoff Lewis & Family. The July Show & Sale held at Carmarthen Livestock Centre was sponsored by AdClad Ltd and judged by William Griffiths of the Fenni Herd. Champion was Santamaria Sideroad Autumn 2 from Geoff & Jean Williams Penygenhill. She sold for £3000.

A successful training day was held end of July at Castellhyfryd Holsteins by kind invitation from Simon, Sian, Issac & Elliot. Clipping, washing, showmanship and setting up a calf for photo were all demonstrated. The older HYB members were helping the next generation and giving plenty of advice and guidance. Congratulations to all involved in organising the day.

Congratulations to Charles George of Brynhyfryd Holsteins on winning the Dr Emrys Evans award at the Royal Welsh Show. The judges were very impressed with how Charles demonstrated how better use of genetics is now bearing fruit in the Brynhyfryd Herd.

A handful of HYB members represented the whole club by presenting a cheque for £3400 to the Chemotherapy unit at Glangwili Hospital Carmarthen in early August. The money raised back in March was divided between the hospital where many club members have received treatment over the years, and keeping the HYB funds in order so that members can have every opportunity to travel and compete at national level.

The August Show & Sale was judged by Ifan James of the Clos Herd and was sponsored by Simon Wookey of Cow House Concept & Grooving. Champion was Cowindale Lambda Favourite from Morse, Capel Farm and she sold for £2600.

South Wales HYB were well represented at the HYB Rally hosted by the South West Club.
