Staffordshire May Club News - Winter Classic

The Winter Classic ran in January as planned, with 12 entries and some new entrants this year, which was very encouraging.
The Club had the pleasure of James Doherty (Firstlook) touring all four corners of the region – some corners certainly chillier than others – on a breezy day. The evening finished with a meal for entrants, with the results announced and trophies presented by James.

There was a new class this year for the Best Red and White animal – thank you to Kelly Woodcock for donating a trophy. An additional trophy was also kindly donated by Yvonne Sadler (Harolday), in memory of her husband. The trophy will be known as the Brian Lawley Yates Memorial Trophy. Unfortunately, with Covid still active, the Dinner and Dance were cancelled.

As usual, the Club will be offering hospitality to members attending the Staffordshire County Show on 1st and 2nd June.

Planning is underway for the Summer Herds Competition in the middle of June and two stock-judging evenings. The first, on 17th June, will be hosted by our President, Andrew Mackellar, (Drointon) and the linear evening by our younger member, Mark Whitehurst (Folemill).

The Alrewas Show will be held on Saturday 16th July.

The Club is holding its qualifying calf show at Staffordshire County Showground on Sunday 18th September.

On 30th December our HYB Co-ordinators, Nathan Sargeant and Lorraine Ross were blessed with a bouncing baby boy, Tommy George Ross Sargeant, a baby brother for Elaina. The club wishes them all well.

Sadly, the Club has lost a long-standing member, John Wilson, founder of the Lanetree herd in the 1950s. John and his family have supported the club in every event we hold. John’s grandsons, Jonny and Phil, are very involved in the HYB section.
